MayaHas a time limit
Register at your commune
Overview
One of the first official steps. There is a time limit.
The question you never knew to ask“What must I hand in when I register, and what happens if I leave without deregistering?”
Why it matters
It is how the commune knows who lives where, and the official page says when it is due.
Does this apply to me?
Your circumstances: Canton Bern, B permit, mixed nationalities, family with children, moving with a partner, arriving soon
It applies to every household moving to Switzerland.
When?
After you arrive. Exact window not verified.
What do I need?
- Passports or IDs for everyone
- Rental contract or proof of address
- Employment contract or permit papers, if you have them
- Confirm the exact list with your commune. It depends on your nationality and permit.
What do I do next?
- Check whether your commune wants an appointment.
- Take everyone's documents in one visit if you can.
- Ask what happens next with your permit card.
- If you move away later, you deregister at the same office.
