Terms of use
Terms of use
Clear terms. A better experience.
These terms explain how you can use settlein, what our platform provides and what you can expect from us. By using settlein, you agree to these terms.
What settlein is
settlein helps you navigate moving to and living in Switzerland. We bring together practical guides, useful resources and AI-powered guidance to help you understand your options and work out your next steps.
We are an independent information platform, not a government authority or a substitute for qualified professional advice. We do not make decisions on your behalf or submit applications for you.
Who you are contracting with
settlein is operated by Rosie Clark and Clive Marambwa as a simple partnership under Swiss law. Contact address: c/o JL Consulting Group GmbH #1644, Zürcherstrasse 84, 8852 Altendorf, Switzerland. Email: enquiries@settlein.ch.
Who can use settlein
You must be 18 or over to create an account. You confirm it, and accept these terms, with one box when you create your account. If these terms change, we ask you to accept them again before your plan opens.
What settlein is not responsible for
Our content is designed to help you understand Swiss systems and identify useful next steps. It is general information, not individual legal, tax, financial, insurance or immigration advice.
Rules, fees, deadlines and requirements can change. Where possible, we link to official resources and identify when information was last checked.
Always verify important requirements with the relevant authority or a qualified professional before acting.
You remain responsible for decisions you make based on information provided by settlein.
Ask settlein (AI)
Ask settlein uses artificial intelligence to help you navigate information about Switzerland and identify relevant next steps.
AI-generated answers can be incomplete, outdated or incorrect, even when they sound confident. Treat them as guidance, not as a final decision or professional opinion.
Where possible, we provide links to official sources and indicate when information was last checked. AI-generated answers may still contain errors or outdated information.
For important matters involving immigration, legal, tax, financial and other obligations, verify the information with the relevant authority or a qualified professional.
Accuracy and availability
We work to keep settlein accurate and available, but we cannot promise that every page is complete or current at every moment, or that the service will always be available without interruption. The date shown beside an official source is the date we last checked it, not a guarantee that it is still current.
Membership
One membership covers one household for 12 months from the day you pay. You pay once: the price is shown in CHF before you confirm, and it is the full amount you pay. It does not renew, and nothing more is charged. We email you 30 days before it ends (you can switch that reminder off); from then you can buy the next 12 months, which start when the current ones end, so nothing is lost by buying early. If you do not buy again, the free parts of settlein keep working.
Refunds
If you change your mind within 14 days of your first payment, we refund it in full — just email us; your membership then ends. After that, and for later purchases, payments are not refundable, except where the law of your country gives you more, or where we fail to provide the service (see below).
If something goes wrong
If the paid service is unavailable for more than 72 consecutive hours for reasons within our control, we extend your membership by the lost days. Your statutory rights are not affected.
Deleting your account
Deleting your household ends your membership straight away.
Changes to these terms
We may change these terms. We email you when we do, and if you are signed in we ask you to accept the new terms before your plan opens. If you do not accept a change, cancel within 30 days of that email — email us — and we refund the unused part of your year pro rata. Using settlein after that is acceptance.
Third-party websites and recommended providers
settlein links to official websites and lists providers we think newcomers may find useful. They operate independently of us and have their own terms and privacy policies, which apply when you use them. We are not responsible for their content, products or services.
Some links in our resources directory may earn us a commission. Each one is labelled. Listings never change what settlein tells you. We are not an insurance intermediary or a financial, legal or tax adviser and do not sell or arrange insurance or financial products.
Intellectual property and acceptable use
The settlein name, design, guides and other content are ours or used with permission. You may use them for your own household’s move; please do not copy, republish or sell them without our written permission. Official texts we quote remain their publishers’.
Please use settlein lawfully and fairly: do not try to access other people’s accounts or data, disrupt the service, or use automated tools to extract its content.
Our liability
settlein is an information service. We do not make decisions for you, and we are not a substitute for the authority, employer, landlord or professional who decides your case.
We are liable without limit for damage we cause intentionally or by gross negligence, and for death or personal injury. The same applies to the people who work for us.
For everything else, our liability to you is excluded as far as the law allows. In particular, we are not liable for damage that results from acting on information, dates, figures or answers (including answers from Ask settlein) without checking them with the official source or the relevant authority, or from information that was correct when we last checked it and has since changed. To the extent liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the membership fees you paid us in the 12 months before the event, and we are not liable for loss of income, lost opportunities, fines, fees or other indirect loss.
Nothing in this section limits rights that the law of your country of residence gives you and that cannot be waived by agreement.
Law and courts
These terms are governed by Swiss law. If you are a consumer, this choice does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory rules of the country where you habitually live, and Swiss law itself does not allow a choice of law for consumer contracts concluded from abroad (Swiss Private International Law Act, Art. 120).
Courts: You may bring a claim against us either at the courts of your own domicile or at the ordinary courts of the Canton of Schwyz at settlein’s place of business. We will bring any claim against you only at the courts of your domicile. This reflects Art. 32 and 35 of the Swiss Civil Procedure Code and, for consumers domiciled in an EU or EFTA state, Art. 16 and 17 of the Lugano Convention. An agreement on a different court is only possible once a dispute has arisen.
