Check your own permit and right to work
Overview
Moving as the partner, your permit and work questions are your own.
The question you never knew to ask“Can I work here as the partner, and on which permit?”
Why it matters
Whether and how a partner can work depends on the permits involved. Ask the canton, not a forum.
Does this apply to me?
Your circumstances: Canton Bern, B permit, mixed nationalities, family with children, moving with a partner, arriving soon
Because Jonah is moving as a partner.
When?
After registration.
What do I need?
- Your passport
- Your marriage or partnership certificate, if relevant
What do I do next?
- Ask the canton which permit you will hold as the partner, and what it says about work.
- If you plan to work, ask whether anything needs doing before your first day, by you or by an employer.
- Your own tasks are on the plan too: tap your name under Household progress to see only those.
