Moving to Switzerland is a big step. Feeling at home shouldn't be.
Moving to Switzerland comes with a lot to figure out. From permits and health insurance to finding a home, sorting your finances, navigating the tax system, school and childcare, the answers are scattered everywhere.
settlein brings it all together, so you can spend less time figuring things out and more time building a life here.
Our story
We know there's more to moving than the move itself.
We arrived in Zürich in 2019. We both work in finance, so we assumed the admin would be the easy part.
Then we went looking for bin bags. We searched every aisle of the supermarket for Züri-Sack, the official bags you have to use for rubbish in the city, and couldn't find a single one. Eventually we plucked up the courage to ask an employee, who pointed us to the till. You have to ask for them there. Nobody tells you this stuff, but we will.
That set the tone for everything else. The Kreisbüro, health insurance, Swiss tax, Pillar 3a and Kita meant a lot of evenings reading forum threads and comparing notes with colleagues. We got most of it right. Some of it we'd do differently.
We have a family here now and little ones in Kita. settlein is what we'd have wanted on day one: the guides, the deadlines in the right order, and the questions you don't know to ask yet. Every step links to the official source where there is one, and anything we haven't checked yet is left blank rather than guessed.
We're not lawyers, tax advisers or immigration consultants, and settlein doesn't replace one. We've just made the move ourselves, and we'd like yours to be easier.
